Berlin is a paradox; on one hand you are shown the stunning work that man can achieve. Walking into the Berlin Dome is breathtaking, a monument full of religious beauty and artifacts. The delicate hands of preservation are continuously at work. Going to the top of the TV Tower, you stop at 210 Meters but it rises to a grand 368. Have a cocktail in a full lounge and take in the lights of Berlin. Just a couple of awesome German achievements. On the other hand you are slapped in the face with the fact that man, as great as we are, truly are our own worst enemy. It can be destroyed with a single person’s crazy ideas. The Holocaust Memorial or as they call it The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is chilling. It is thousands of grey square stones that you can walk through. You feel small, helpless and the pain of the past is enduring. The museum is even more filled with emotion as photographs from the autrocities of man are on full display. Our history books don’t compare to looking it in the eyes.
The important part to me is that man has prevailed and will continue to prevail. There is really no way to echo the raw emotion you have here unless you walk these streets. A few words and pictures are no match for the power of Berlin. A must see. Germans don’t want us to be sad though. They are one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met. Prost!!!
